Buying/selling property without a solicitor?
I'm buying a flat from my mum. There's no mortgage involved on either side. My usual solicitors say they'll charge the full amount regardless. Is it possible to just transfer the title without going through solicitors? WHO advice always appreciated.

If you don't need a surveyor or solicitor then there can't be any problem

No surveyor required. What do you do? Can it all be done online? Which website?

As long as you're not buying it under the legal value, you won't get hit by extra tax

You can do it all yourself as there's no mortgage involved https://www.gov.uk/registering-land-or-property-with-land-registry/transfer-ownership-of-your-property
If property is worth less than £500k, will cost about £80 but you will both have to make an appointment at your local HM Land Registry office to get the required forms checked and have your respective IDs verified.
Nice day out in Croydon (or wherever your nearest office may be), and they'll send you the title deeds within a few weeks. But do make sure you've completed the forms properly and get your signatures witnessed before going there!

Your own mum is going to charge you for a place to live.

She clearly doesn't love you.

Well, with interest rates on the up, I'd advise waiting a while, so you don't need to pay your dearly beloved mum as much!

do it if you like but you dont know what nasties are lurking in the background. If you use a solicitor you get insurance against negligence. Peace of mind is always of value.
